Pattern Pyramid Update

OK all is well in blog land now. I did end up having to change themes because I couldn’t get the old one to work, but change is good, no? I’m not entirely convinced I’m in love with this one, but it’ll do for now, and more importantly, it works.

Because of the delay caused by technical difficulties, I am extending the Pattern Pyramid draw til Tuesday, January 29th. You can either leave a comment on this post or on the original Pattern Pyramid post, here.

Thanks for your patience! ^__^

Pattern Pyramid is Here!!

Hi All!

I was recently chosen as the next recipient of the Pattern Pyramid started by Ann ofย Pretty Grievances, inspired by the one started by Karen ofย Did You Make That? The previous custodian was Anne of Tulle and Tweed, and she sent it all the way from Glasgow, Scotland to the west coast of Canada! ^__^

Here is the one I chose to keep:

It’s similar to Cake’s Tiramisu pattern, which I have, but the skirt is cut on the bias, and there is no separate midriff piece; instead there is a tie belt, which is a nice touch. I was a bit concerned there wasn’t enough separation between the two patterns for me to justify keeping this one, but alas, the others are all either the wrong style for me, the wrong size, or I already have it ^__^

I will likely make this a bit shorter as well, since I prefer above the knee to calf length ๐Ÿ˜›

Here is the pattern I am replacing it with:

It’s a vintage Kwik Sew bra pattern for 32 A-D. There is even some writing on it from the previous owner who discovered she actually needed the 34A, so I’m guessing the pattern hasn’t been used ^___^ I would think adjusting the width wouldn’t be too hard, but I’m not at all experienced enough to say that with any certainty, and in any event, it doesn’t go high enough in cup size for me, so I’m setting this pattern free in hopes someone adventurous might get a chance to try it ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are the rest of the Pattern Pyramid patterns up for grabs:

I can personally recommend the Cynthia Rowley pattern, as that’s the one I made my Starsky Dress from ๐Ÿ™‚

Please leave a comment on this post if you would like to be entered for the draw to become the next link in the Pattern Pyramid chain! I will be doing the draw on Tuesday, January 22nd: one week from today ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck! ^__^

Giveaway! First Annual Blogiversary!

October 18, 2012, marks the one-year anniversary of my first blog post on this here project blog. Little did I know what an amazing community I was yet to discover and become a part of!! I’m gonna get all down & personal here now, so if you wanna sit this one out, or just skip down to the giveaway, I’ll totally understand ๐Ÿ™‚

A lot has happened in a year; I’ve learned so much, and come so far!!

In sewing, I’ve participated in my first sewalong, made my first pants, did my first FBA, sewed my first buttonhole and used boning for the first time, along with so much more! I’ve learned so much about fitting, fabric, and technique. I’ve begun to discover my own personal style & have started my first planned capsule wardrobe!

In my personal life, I’ve spent the last 10 months trying to improve my health, inside & out. For me personally, unless I follow a strict diet & exercise plan, my self esteem suffers greatly. I have a really slow metabolism so I easily gain weight, become lethargic, and just feel generally gross – physically and mentally. Through tracking calories & a daily exercise regime, I’ve lost over 30 lbs! I still have a ways to go but I’ve come a long way & I’m on the right path^_^ I am also very blessed to have a wonderful man and mum in my life who are loving, supportive, and patient with me no matter what I’m going through ๐Ÿ™‚

In my professional life, I just recently lost my job of almost seven years. No boo-hoo-ing though; this is one of those transitions that was meant to be. As emotional as it was, (after so long, the people there are like family to me), I was going stagnant there from lack of creative stimulation. With the changes in the company’s focus, there was less and less work for me, so while I still do work for them a few hours a week, I’m free now to try & find a new home that will challenge & grow my creative abilities… and that’s exciting! (even if I have to be poor for awhile lol)

Over the last month, two lovely bloggers I’ve met along the way have nominated me for blog awards. Thank you to A Gastronome’s Closet and PunkMik!! Since I have already received one recently and handed out the honours to others, this time I would like to, instead, give back by hosting my first giveaway!!

The giveaway is for a set of three patterns; one for each of my award nominations and one for my one year anniversary! ^__^

The first two are brand new, unused patterns:

Simplicity 2339 Amazing Fit blouse:

And Simplicity 4192:

In addition to these two, you will get one of your choice from the vintage patterns shown here

Alternatively, if you’re not a sewist, I’m offering a personalized blog header for your blog, designed by me ๐Ÿ™‚ (you tell me what you want & I’ll design it!)

This is my thanks to you all for being so awesome!!! Feel free to pass the giveaway info on to your friends; anyone is welcome to participate!!

To enter, please leave a comment on this blog post by the end of October and let me know what prize you prefer ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll draw the winner on November 1st ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy October!!

my first giveaway win, unsolicited compliment, & sneaky peek!

I’ve been remiss in not posting this sooner but awhile back I won my first giveaway: 3 m of this gorgeous ricrac in one of my favourite colours; bright orange – from the lovely & talented Karen of DidYouMakeThat

20120418-125944.jpg

I received it in the mail a couple weeks ago but really wanted to have a project plan for it before I posted it… but I’m drawing a blank! I really want it to be used for something special cause I love the colour so much ๐Ÿ™‚ Ideas? ๐Ÿ™‚

Also as a side note I got my first non-friend or family compliment on a me-made item today; ironically the baby doll blouse I blogged about here. I did make it small enough to wear and it’s the only me-made I’ve worn to work… and voila! compliment from my boss’ fashion savvy wife; I didn’t tell her I made it, though cause I’m really not proud of it lol.

And now for a gratuitous cat pic (and also a sneaky peek at my Taffy fabric!):
